Predestination is God's eternal decree by which, before the foundation of the world, he chose particular sinners for salvation in Christ (election) and passed over the rest, leaving them in their sin. In Reformed theology it is unconditional — grounded in God's good pleasure alone, not in anything foreseen in us — and it is meant for comfort, not speculation.
