10:32-45 Christ's going on with his undertaking for the salvation of mankind, was, is, and will be, the wonder of all his disciples. Worldly honour is a glittering thing, with which the eyes of Christ's own disciples have many times been dazzled. Our care must be, that we may have wisdom and grace to know how to suffer with him; and we may trust him to provide what the degrees of our glory shall be. Christ shows them that dominion was generally abused in the world. If Jesus would gratify all our desires, it would soon appear that we desire fame or authority, and are unwilling to taste of his cup, or to have his baptism; and should often be ruined by having our prayers answered. But he loves us, and will only give his people what is good for them.

36. And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?—Though well aware what was in their mind and their mother's, our Lord will have the unseemly petition uttered before all.

Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptised with the baptism that I am baptised with?” MARK 10: 39 They said to him, “We are able.” Jesus said to them, “You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptised with the baptism that I am baptised with; MARK 10: 40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared.” Verse 40 Is not mine to give - See on Matthew 20:23 (note). MARK 10: 41 When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards James and John. Verse 41 When the ten heard it - See Matthew 20:24-28. MARK 10: 42 Jesus summoned them, and said to them, “You know that they who are recognised as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. MARK 10: 43 But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant. MARK 10: 44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all. MARK 10: 45 For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” MARK 10: 46 They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road. Verse 46 Blind Bartimeus - ‫בר‬ bar in Syriac signifies son.

Judging men and angels (Matthew 25:31, 32; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Romans 14:10; Acts 17:31; John 5:22). True, it is said that the Twelve shall sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel (Matthew 14:28), and that the saints shall judge angels; but other Scriptures explain this, that they shall be merely assessors of Jesus Christ. Worship. Finally. The peculiar worship of God is given to Christ (Matthew 28:19; Luke 24:52; John 5:23; Acts 7:59, 60; John 14:1; and Ps. 12 compared with Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 10:25, 26; 1 Cor. 1; Philippians 2:10; Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 1:5, 6; 7:10; 5:13). In connection, weigh these passages, as showing how unlikely the Scripture would be to permit such worship, (or Christ Himself), if He were not proper God (Isaiah 13:8; Matthew 4:16; or Luke 4:8; Mark 12:29; Acts 14:14, 15; Revelation 19:10; 22:9). Remember that the great object of Scripture is to reclaim the world from idolatry. The Arian and Socinian evasions are well stated and refuted by Hill, Bk. iii, ch. 7, Sect. 3.

The most important of them may be seen handled with great skill by Dr. Hill, Bk. iii, ch. 3 and 4. But we clearly find the following divine works ascribed to Jesus Christ: Creation of the world (Proverbs 8:23, 27, and so on.; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:1, 3, 10). And along with this, may be mentioned his sustentation of all things, asserted in the same passages.
